My trip to El Salvador was short but very sweet. I went there prior to my trip to Guatemala in April 2005 where I was hosted by a great guy, Diego, and his family ina small village outside of San Salvador. We had met through Hospitality Club. In El Salvador I visited the many historical monuments of San Salvador including being there the night Pope John Paul the II died and the 25th anniversary of the assasination of Monsignor Romero. I also went to the rarely visisted Mayan Site of San Andres. Also during my short stay in El Salvador I visited Cerro Verde National Park, Playa Del San Diego, Costa Del Sol, Los Planes, Volcan Izalco, Juaya, and Santa Ana. But the most memorable thing of this trip was my host family and his neighbors. Very few of the children had seen a gringo which quickly became my nickname. I was treated like family and invited to a baptism party, did some merengue dancing, and checked out the cumbia clubs!
