Hello all....I am here in Petra.  Last night we went out and had a Turkish tobacco pipe (hookah) it actually tasted pretty good and was fun to try something new.  At the cafe we met two friends of Simon and Suzanne...Akram and Subhi.  Very interesting people.  We then headed to a great party held at the home a French diplomat.  It was like the United Nations...there were Germans, French, Italians, Jordanians, Palestinians.  I had great conversations with everyone and the theme was often about politics...was very interesting to get so many worldviews.   Akram was the person I talked tot he most....he was Palestinian and ultra conservative Muslim.  He was explaining the right of Hamas and Hezbollah to exist as a legitimate political party.  The home was beautiful.  We did not get home until 3 am.  We slept in late and woke up about 10:30 and had brunch.   At 1 we left for Petra and it took 4 hours to drive.  What an exciting ride......I really felt like I was in the middle east with the vastness of the dessert, sheiks along the road, Bedouins.   We got to Petra and found a place to stay for the night.   Now we are having tea/internet and will have dinner and go to bed early.  Tomorrow we will visit Petra all day from 8 am until 5 pm and then drive back to Amman...will be a very long day! I hope all is well with everyone.  Take care.  I probably will not be able to write tomorrow...so don’t worry!
