Greetings....no I´m not shopping at the mall...I am in Honduras  also known as the bananana republic.

This may be short as I am stuck in Choluteca and could not find any internet so the owner of a hotel is letting me use his personal computer for a few minutes.

Well, each trip has its hell day...Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, Jerusalem to Bethlehem, Arenal to Puerto Viejo, Nazca to Arequipa....there always seems to be one day on each trip that is riddled with drama.   Yesterday was that day.

After I wrote to you on Saturday night the family I was staying with stated that Honduras was very very dangerous.  I went to bed and then Sunday morning I packed.  I then went to the tour agency which took me to a bus station in a puddle of mud!!  The bus was actually very nice.  There was one other tourist from Holland who turned out to be National Tennis Player so we talked for a while.  It took forever to get to the border and it rained all the way and the road was riddled with pot holes. I was about to get sick from being on the bus.  We got to the border and I had to pay $2 to get out of nicaragua and $3 to get into Honduras. It was painstakingly slow crossing the border.   We finally got into Honduras.  Everyone on the bus was going to Guatemala except for me.  I needed to get to at least Choluteca, Honduras.   The scenerey changed and was hilly and tropical, we sped along the highway and the sun began to set and the rain began to pour harder.  I was staring out the window when the bus stopped at an intersection and someone came up to me and said CHOLUTECA.  I got off the bus and they got my bag and they said Choluteca was a few miles up the road from this intersection.  The bus took off and I was all alone on an intersection in the middle of no where with the sun setting, the rain pouring, and only me and my backpack.

I was scared and didn´t know what to do...so I started walking down the road in the rain in the direction they pointed.  I decided to hitch hike and a truck stopped and I jumped in the bed of the truck.  I was drenched sitting in the rain.  We got to choluteca and I didn´t know where to go and the streets were completely flooded.  I had to walk in chin high water and kept thinking...I´m going to get Hepattitis or Typhoid from all this water I´m walking in.   It was my first time to be in a flooded city.  I was thrashed by mosquitos last night. I found a motel El Fuente which was a bit expensive but at this point I didnt care.  The other problem was that I had no money...only Cordobas from Nicaragua and I need to get Honduran Money but there was no banks ATMs, or anything open.   There were not internet cafes, stores, etc.   I did have some US Dollars so the hotel excepted that.

I was so tired I fell asleep with my clothes on.  So I woke up and freshened up and was able to get acess to this guys personal computer.  Now I need to go get money and find the bus to Tegucigalpa.   As bad as all this might seem....this is good....because it is usually these hell stories I rememer the most and become a badge of courage.  So hopefully I will write you tonight from Tegucigalpa.  I just wanted to make sure I got an email out because a friend of my mom prints these off for her and if I miss a day...poor mom gets worried.

Well, take care.   With peace, love and adventure...
