Thursday we left Puerto Viejo for yet another hellish bus ride to San Jose. We arrived in San Jose and got a room by the central Mercado which Hanlan wanted because it was $4 a night. I told him I wanted to go my separate way for a while…so he went shopping and I went to the Cathedral, the Teatro, had coffee and went shopping. We met up for dinner again. I went to Avispa…a gay club and had a great time…I met Cecilio, Jaime, Ricardo, and Juan. I took a cab home about 12:30 and went to bed at 1 am. We woke up at 4 am and headed to the airport. What a fiasco…we had to pay a $26 departure tax and the flight to Phoenix was ok. But the flight there got cancelled so we had to wait 4 hours. Hanlan and I got home about 7 and Joe picked us up and we came home and did laundry and I got organized while Hanlan figured out his plans for tomorrow. We made waffles…and went to bed at midnight. So now it is Friday and it seems this trip went by so fast. |

Today i still woke up angry...but i really tried to let it go. Hanlan and I rented bikes and we biked downt he carribean coast to Manzanillo....14 miles where there is a wildlife park that goes to the panama border. We hiked and it was like being in the mud run!!! my foot literally got stuck int he mud. After we went snorkeling which was incredible!!! We then biked back to puerto viejo...we saw a bunch of monkeys, toucans, etc. the wildlife is incredible..the sites and sounds..it´s hard to explain i feel like i´m at disneyland. We got back to town and hanlan joined some local to play soccer as i watched on drinking cafe and smoking cigs! So...we are leaving puerto viejo tomorrow morning and heading to San Jose to see the city and go on a shopping-souvenir spree before leaving Friday |

Tuesday we woke up and caught the buses out of Arenal for puerto viejo...it was a hellish ride.....3 hours to San Ramon, another 2 to San Jose and then four hours to puerto viejo. on the carribean coast. We finally got in here about 7 30 ....to be honest i was a bit nervous as it is definitely not like the other side of Costa Rica....its reggae, ganga, and peace. i'm glad i'm visiting it as it is like nothing i have seen before....but my preference is on the other side....salsa music, paved roads, etc. We checked into a cabina which was a long drama and then hanlan and i went out to eat...when i returned...my digital camera was stolen....needless to say you know how much my pictures mean to me...i went ballistic....it wasn´t he camera so much as the 40 or so pics on the disk of wildlife, sunsets, etc. i still have my 4 disposable cameras...at any rate, it really put me in a sour mood. Unfortunately Hanlan got to see a side of me that few get too...but he put up with it and was a good sport. |

Monday was an incredible day....we woke up and went on the canopy tour where we swung on the cables through the forest. I was so scared because I am afraid of heights. But it was a great experience. After we went horseback riding and then had a nice lunch at the pool. Hanlan and I were the only ones on the tour. In the afternoon, We went on the Arenal Volcano tour...which is the most active volcano. it rarely clears but we were lucky and the clouds lifted twice so we could see the top. We started with a hike through the jungle-rain forest at the bottom of the volcano up to a vista. we saw a poisonous snake which was really camoflauged, some more monkeys, toucans, and i finally got to see the Verde parrot in thge wild. After the volcano tour we headed to the hotsprings...which were incredible...it´s srping heated by the volcano..and some of them are about 144 degreess....hanlan and <i could not venture into the hottest one...i could only make to my ankles and bailed. But itwas wonderful the warm springs. |

Sunday...we woke up in Jaco and did some surfing and boogie boarding. We then caught a bus to San Jose and had to get another bus to Arenal...it took us 8 hours on the bus with winding roads, people getting sick. I am glad this day is over |
