---Greetings...how are you.   I am doing all right but just so tired...so please excuse any typos.  it´s been a long day and I feel like I can’t even keep my eyes open.   I am writing you from my host family Diego and his family who live in a mountain village outside of San Salvador about 30 miles.  let’s see..Once the plane took off I fell asleep and woke up in El Salvador.  Diego and his friend Antonio picked me up.  I was a bit shocked as it was a dilapidated pick up truck and I sat in the truck bed which I know is a no no back home..but it was fun.   Directly from the airport they took me to Costa del Sol which was beautiful beachfront with some ruins from the earthquake of 2003.  We hung out there for a while...and then went to another beach..a surfing beach called playa del san diego..We were the only ones on the beach.  The water temp was great.  After that we went up into the mountains to the mirador del planes which overlooks the whole city of San Salvador and the volcano.  Here I had pupusa...the national dish and it was great.  After that we met up with some friends of there....Carlos, Roberto, Elena, and went out for drinks and live music and I learned how to cumbia!!   Plus they asked the band to play mariposa my favorite song!!  We then went to Antonio’s house...he is a police officer and I met his wife and 4 children and she made us fried bananas!  Yum.  Finally, Diego took me home and I met his parents. So far it has been great...the Salvadorians...are very emotional and passionate...everything is a huge drama!!   Which I love.  The other thing I am learning is what it feels like to be the only white person. I have not seen a single gringo since I was on the plane..In fact I was the only white person on the plane.  And here in El Salvador .  I have not run into any others and when I go into these small villages...everyone stares at me.  Diego said that in some of these jungle villages the children have probably not ever seen a white person so they look and point.  Everyone has been so friendly and inquisitive.   I just hope I don’t get sick from swimming the ocean.  Of course, the countryside is beautiful and very humid and tropical but the city is very polluted and swarms with poverty....even worse than Bolivia. And even the people I am staying with are ´professionals and the homes leave something to be desired...but I feel like I’m truly living like the people.   It is incredible and they love to dance.   So I am going to go to bed soon.  Hope all is well with you.  Tomorrow I am going to Cerro Verde national park to see the active volcano and rain forest and then Friday night in the evening a group of us are going out clubbing for merengue, salsa, and cumbia.
