Redding Highlights
(Thursday, 15 March 2012) Written by Keith Rhoades
This was our last day of our trip. I decided last night that since I got so much accomplished having a rental car I would keep it until we had to leave and head back to Sacramento.   Today my adventure was to Redding and the Turtle Bay Exploration Park along the Sacramento River.   Turtle Bay Exploration Park is a museum complex that interprets the relationship between humans and nature. The attractions include a botanical garden, a natural history and science museum, a "camp" for nature, history and science education programs, the Sundial Bridge and seasonal animal programs. My first stop was the Sundial Bridge and a walk across the bridge to the banks of the Sacramento River.   The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding, Calif... Shasta County, California
(Wednesday, 14 March 2012) Written by Keith Rhoades
After a good night rest we woke up and had a hearty breakfast included with the hotel.   The primary reason for this trip was Howard had work in Redding and I tagged along and was going to explore Shasta County.   On his way to work he dropped me off at the car rental place where I rented a car.   My intent was to rent it for the day….but the weather was so bad and I got so accustomed to having “wheels” I decided to keep it an extra day.   This allowed me a lot more freedom to explore around and in a faster manner.   My original plan was to go biking but due to the inclement weather, I switched plans to a rental car which proved to be much better.   After acquiring the car I headed west out of Redding to Shasta Historical State Park which I didn’t re... Journey to the other end of the state
(Tuesday, 13 March 2012) Written by Keith Rhoades
---I woke up excited about going on a trip.   I woke up very early to drive up to Howard’s by 8:30 am.   We headed to Burbank Airport which I had never flown out of.   I really liked the ease and access of this terminal.   It was an added bittersweetness to know that the cemetery my family is at was just a few blocks away.   I remember as a child visiting my grandparents at the cemetery and watching the planes take off over the graves.   This time it was me “taking off” and flying over my grandparents and parents. The day was mainly a transit day…so not much history or adventures.   We arrived in Sacramento and go our rental car and headed north on I-5.   I had never been north of Sacramento on the I-5….not much different than the drive fr... La Boca and the final day...
(Friday, 26 November 2010) Written by Keith Rhoades
WEll, this is it...the final hours before I head back home.  I am sad to leave and dreading the first week back.  THe first week back is so hard emotionally and physically getting back into the regular groove, adjusting to the jet lag, and the emotional withdrawl that I go through...the only thing that helps is time and start planning or at least thinking of where to go next.   I called mom last night to wish her a happy thanksgiving....it was nice to talk to her and to know everything is alright back home. Last night I had some drama but it is all ok now.   I woke up this morning and decided to walk to La Boca.  Now I am not that educated on La Boca..but everyone says there is a river walk ¨"Caminita" that is really cool and touristy....yet the travel books I have said that La Boca is dow...
